Abstract

Abstract The study focused on social media and democratic consolidation in Nigeria with particular reference to Taraba State. It adopted a multi-disciplinary method in gathering and interpreting data as well as other related materials from published books, journals and magazines that are equally related to the topic. The findings from the study revealed that the adoption of social media towards democratic consolidation in Taraba State is yet to be achieved because the relationship between the social media agents and politicians in the state is still saddled with shortcoming or misunderstanding between the two parties. Thus, the study recommended that there should be cordial relationship and functionality between the State and media agencies and that the freedom of the press whether print or electronic should be guaranteed by the state. Media practitioners should equally be dedicated to their work and having the masses in mind instead of their personal interest. It is only in this way that democracy could be consolidated in Taraba State. Key words: Democracy, Democratic consolidation, Social media, Nigeria, Taraba State..
