This paper is a probe into the application of disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DDR) in Burundi. The core interest of the paper is the possible lessons the Nigerian state could learn over the strategies employed. The article adopts a qualitative research method with reliance on the secondary sources of data and employs structural functionalism as theoretical framework to highlight the thrust of the paper. The study reveals that DDR is the United Nations programme to foster peace. The programme succeeded in Burundi as a result of internal support of the Burundi’s security agents and the civil society. Also, DDR in Burundi gained momentum due to internal dynamics such as; understanding, desire for nation-building, honesty and government open policy. On the other hand, the paper unravels that rehabilitation of ex-Boko Haram combatant programme is an inborn initiative by the Nigerian government. Thus, there is need for the Nigerian government to imbibe the strategy adopted in Burundi. Keywords: Disarmament, Demobilization, Reintegration, Burundi, Nigeria.
